FAQ

What do I need to wear for Pilates?

In Pilates, you need to have freedom of movement therefore comfortable non-restrictive clothing is best.

Am I too old? too young?

Pilates is appropriate for all ages. The exercises are tailored for each person or small group cohort - whether for the over 70’s needing to concentrate on balance and improve strength and bone health; or for the 6 year old, trying to improve gross motor function and coordination.

Isn’t rehabilitation at the gym better?

Pilates offers so much more than just the strengthening of muscles! Pilates requires connection of the mind and body in order to coordinate, control and respond to the different exercises. Breathwork is very important as you soften certain areas and engage others. You leave class feeling centred, secure in your power, and light in your step.

Can I mix Pilates with other activities? such as running?

Yes! I have worked with runners in preparation for marathons, gymnasts and of course, dancers. Pilates helps to balance muscle groups and provides stability and power in its training. It also has the added benefits of reducing stress and increasing focus. Joseph Pilates started with the rehabilitation of dancers and now sports people rely on it to increase their speeds, improve balance and calm the mind.

Can I do PIlates while pregnant woman?

Yes, definitely, Pilates is an excellent system to help you adapt and feel confident. Taking the time to be aware of your changing body and breath, and maintaining strength and flexibility is so very important for a healthy and pain- free pregnancy.

How soon after pregnancy may I start Pilates?

It really depends on your particular birth. Please get in touch to discuss when would be best.

Where can i do pilates with you?

I provide instruction within the clinic or studio, but if possible, I also enjoy teaching classes in the open air so everyone may benefit of taking time out in nature.
